Queer Tango is about breaking boundaries.

Boundaries of sexuality; of gender; of heteronormative roles. It’s a way for Argentine Tango to embrace members of the LGBT community, and it also offers opportunities for all dancers to strengthen their skills by studying both roles.

Leader/follower role reversal can help us to grow as dancers. It can help us to better understand our partners’ needs, learn to listen better, communicate with more strength, and be more empathetic to the unique challenges faced in the other role by putting ourselves in our partners’ shoes.

The Gift That Keeps on Giving…

Dance gets into your veins.  It’s more than something to do – it’s something to be.  Once you’re a dancer, you don’t stop being a dancer, even if you have lapses in the actual dancing.  A Tango Dancer.  A Salsa Dancer.  A Swing Dancer.  A Dancer, full stop.  It’s a skill; a craft; an art; a way of being.  Dance stays with you.

Think back to when you took your very first dance class.  Did you just randomly wake up one morning and say, “hey – this feels like a good day to learn tango”?  Or were you inspired by someone in your life, whether it be a friend, coworker, significant other, parent, child, street performance?  For many of us, we might not have ever tried had we not had just that little bit of inspiration.  And for many of us, a life without dance is hardly conceivable now.

This is why we think the gift of dance is so meaningful.  It outlasts the orange chocolates, tinsel, or Hanukkah candles.  It outlasts a beach vacation or fancy dinner on the town – lovely as all these things are, they can’t help but eventually fade to memories.  But learn to dance, and you always have somewhere to go.  And instead of trying to recapture old memories, you keep making new ones.  This, we think, is a truly special gift.  For anyone and everyone.

Email us for more information on our gift certificates.  And, as always- keep dancing!

Abrazame Bien… Yes, You. Fridays @ 7:30pm. Last Practica 12/16 7:30-9:00pm!

Dardo says… Abrazame Bien!

And you don’t want to cross Dardo.

We are pleased to announce a new Friday-night practica, hosted by our own DG of DGS.  Open to all levels, this practica is for truly dedicated students.  Students who have spent years of hard work, practice, and perseverance to become great dancers.  Students who know they have it in them to become great dancers, and are ready to put in the hard work, practice and perseverance to improve.  If you have drive, we want you here.  Abrazame Bien is an opportunity to work on your dancing at your own level, in your own time, and with your own focus… show us what you can do, dear students.

Abrazame Bien: Hold me better (most) Fridays, from 7:30pm ‘til the wine ceases to flow and Times Square sleeps.

DGS students: free • Everyone else: $10

Please note:  Tonight 12/16  the practica will only run from 7:30-9:00, but stick around for Glenda Heffer (La Mambera)’s Salsa & Sangria party at 9:45!  Only $5!
