This class introduces the basic footwork pattern, partnering skills to lead and follow, and focuses on the musicality of dancing on the Down Beat(break on “1”) in the music. This class emphasizes on the repetition of the basic steps, while leading and following on the on 1 Timing.

Mariana Parma Bio
Mariana Parma is widely known and admired for her masterful expertise in Argentine- Tango and Salsa. Mariana’s approach in teaching and performing is to transmit the essence of each dance style through the musicality and movement. This approach makes her a sought out performer, teacher, and choreographer. She taught for more than 10 years at Dance Manhattan, Salsa on 2, and Argentine Tango. She has taught Salsa at Pier 54 and Argentine Tango at Bryant Park for more than 300 people. Mariana has an ability to instruct the students in a positive and supportive method, that encourages the student to learn basic and advanced sequences, while having fun.
As a performer Mariana has been featured in film, including Random Hearts starring HarrisonFord, and on national TV. Based in NYC, she was a producer and performer in the off-Broadway hit Swango, the Musical, performed in Swing The Musical, Evita, Tango Fever,Romulo Larrea’s Ensemble, and numerous Tango productions. She has coached Chita Rivera in tango, for her role inVenecia, directed by the late award winning American Playwright, Author Laurents and legendary Broadway performer Tommy Tune.Internationally, she choreographed a major Parle commercial in Mumbai, India, starring Bollywood star Roshan Hrithik. She is the 2013 HOLA award recipient for choreography in the play, Tango Fever, and the 2008, USA Tango Champion, in Tango Salon. And is the choreographer and performer, for the all women’s Tango show, Glamour Tango.
Gabriel Misse, admired for his classical “tanguero” style, is one of thegreat “milongueros” of this generation. A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Gabriel begain studying dance at the age of eight years old studying with the great masters Antonio Todaro and Pepito Avellaneda. For many years Gabriel was a member of Miguel Angel Zotto’s company, “Tango x 2” “Forever Tango”, Mariano Mores and has toured the world with the show “Una Noche de Tango”, to name a few. Gabriel is also the choreographer of several Argentine Tango shows, and was one of the judges for the “Campeonatos Metropolitano” and the “Mundiales de Tango”. He has traveled the world participating in numerous Tango festivals in Europe, Asia and North America.
Analia Centurion, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Analía begain dancing at the age of six, and has studied ballet, modern dance and piano. Her professional career as an Argentine Tango dancer began in 1995. From 2002-2006, she directed the “Fusion Tango” company, and was also a member of many Tango shows including: “Juan Carlos Copes and Company”, Mora Godoy, and many dinner shows including “La Ventana”, “Casa de Cena”, and “Piazolla Tango” to name a few. Analía has also performed in the final show andparticipated as a judge for the “Mundiales de Tango”.
We are thrilled to have Mauro Cacciatore, our first visiting Instructor in 2013. Born and raise in Rosario, Argentina, Mauro brings to tango a taste of the past nostalgia mixed with the improvisational possibilities of modern dance. Mauro is an accomplished dancer, choreographer and artist, who continues to broaden his skills through movement technique and modern dance. Mauro is known for his distinctive teaching of technique, precision, clear leading and vast knowledge of the music.
For both singles and couples, the assisted practica is an opportunity to work on steps or sequences that you want to improve as Gabriel and Analia provide feedback, demonstrate small sequences and answer questions. They also take the opportunity to teach about the true tango traditions, and educate students about tango music as well as the great milongeros. While these practicas are not milongas, they give you the space and the coaching required to improve your dancing.
On Friday 10/19 after the Practica join us for a special milonga with Gabriel Misse as our dj.

Tango stars Carolina Zokalski & Diego Di Falco return this (and every!) month to DGS for Pa’ Milonguear! guided practicas.
We are so lucky to have such talented dancers and experienced teachers as part of our extended studio family, and we hope you can join them for a serious evening of tango. Carolina and Diego have toured all over the world and danced on Broadway with the hit show Broadway Tango, and appeared in the PBS special Tango Magic. Take advantage, dear students, of the wealth of knowledge to be gained in these practicas! And make sure you check out their website for more information, videos, and other upcoming events.

Abrazame Bien! Practica Hosted By Dardo. This is a practica for all dedicated dancers: dancers who have spent years of hard work, practice, and perseverance to become great; less experienced dancers ready to put in the hard work, practice and perseverance to become great as well. If you have drive, we want you here!
And to introduce interested students to DGS and to tango will we also be offering a free class, taught by a special guest teacher each week, from 6:30-7:30pm. This class is free for first time students (so, my faithful and dedicated students, spread the word!) and we will be offering a special practica rate of $10 for anyone who is interested in continuing to dance after. As always, Abrazame Bien! is free for DGS students and $10 for everyone else.

We are pleased to announce a new Friday-night practica, hosted by our own DG of DGS. Open to all levels, this practica is for truly dedicated students. Students who have spent years of hard work, practice, and perseverance to become great dancers. Students who know they have it in them to become great dancers, and are ready to put in the hard work, practice and perseverance to improve. If you have drive, we want you here. Abrazame Bien is an opportunity to work on your dancing at your own level, in your own time, and with your own focus… show us what you can do, dear students.
Abrazame Bien: Hold me better (most) Fridays, from 7:30pm ‘til the wine ceases to flow and Times Square sleeps.
